Merry Christmas Everyone!

I hope all that celebrate Christmas have had, or will have had a very pleasant and peaceful Holiday.

We took the day off to be with family.

All of us ate way too much, but enjoyed it immensely. We had a very special present, in that we also prepared a Christmas meal (and a few extra’s to boot) for a family friend who has no one to share the Holiday with. While it’s a good feeling to do for others, it does almost feel a bit, I dunno… maybe odd is the best word, to only do so at the Holidays. My mother-in-law does this all year long, so this is just part of who she is and what she does.

One of our missions with the studio, is obviously to recoup the investment of money we’re putting into making this a great place to make music, but another mission is to give musicians that deserve to be heard; a chance. Not necessarily charity, but to preserve the music so that future generations will be able to experience and enjoy it.

If we fail to preserve our musical heritage, we are going to loose a valuable part of our social and cultural fabric. It’s imperative that other studio owners and audio engineers respect and do what they can to at least periodically seek out a preservation project and do what they need to to ensure that real, live and honest music is saved for the future.

OK… off my soapbox… for now.

I haven’t posted the results from the work accomplished Christmas Eve day. I’ll snag some shots in a bit and put them up… In the mean time…

I’ve started to order the parts for the doors… magnetic seals, automatic thresholds, hinges and other hardware. As soon as it all comes in, we’ll be ready to put up the exterior door!

I’ve actually started to work with the new Icon system. With a few glitches and bumps, I’ve managed to transfer the files from a session I tracked at Liberty Showcase. The group is the house band there… They go by Blender. It was their Christmas Special. The mix is turning out quite well for what it was… the direct outs from the FOH console to the HD24.

I transferred the files from the HD24 to the server, from there, I brough the WAV’s into the PT rig and started mixing. I’ve got to get the automation figured out, but other than that, the D-Command makes mixing with PT a breeze to do. You spend very little time with the mouse and only really need it for file commands and the like.

I’ll ask the band if I can post a file or two on the website once we’re to that point.

Pix in a bit!

I’m off to Lowe’s for a few things….

OK… here’s few pix…

5/8″ Fire Rated Gypsum in the exterior stud wells…

You know… this stuff is HEAVY… and a pretty healthy pain in the butt to move and cut by hand.

Tomorrow when I go back for load #2 of Gypsum and furring strips, I think I’m going to get a RotoZip tool. I had one at the old place, but it was stolen, along with a lot of other tools.

If we finish the other side tomorrow… we’ll start on this side…
